WiP Wednesday 11/24

Howdy!  Guess what?  I actually have a little bit of progress to report.  Shocking, right?

Since last week’s update, I’ve managed to add 3,211 words to Clockworks and Cogs.  A large chunk of that was a scene that I put in wholesale (with a couple minor tweaks) from the short story.  So not all “new” words in the literal sense, but still new for the novel version of this story.

A version which I’m considering abandoning.  We shall see.

Tantalus Tuesday November

*waves*

Hi all!  Can you believe November is almost over?  Seriously, where does time go?

Anyways.  It’s that time again.  My progress on Clockworks and Cogs goes very slowly, but not so slowly that I don’t have another little teaser snippet to share.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.  I’ll be posting on Wednesday and Friday of this week, but plan on taking the Thanksgiving holiday off from the online world.

WiP Wednesday 11/17

Wow.  Sorry for the lack of updates.  There’s really no progress to report.  I can’t pinpoint the last time I actually had my WiP file open.

But, I do have a glorious 11-day break from school coming up.  During this time I intend to write and write and write some more.

And maybe get some reading done, too.

WiP Wednesday 10/20

Apparently, I’ve never posted a progress update during the month of October.  (And I’m so tired as I write this post that I typed November instead of October.)

So, here’s a progress update.

I’ve added a couple thousand words to Clockworks and Cogs.

I am also desperately missing my muse and my writing time.  Sigh.

Hey yo!  It’s that time once more.  Progress to report?  Hrm.

Clockworks and Cogs goes well, albeit a bit slower than I’d anticipated.  I’m just so beat by the time I get to writing time that it takes me a while to get into the groove.  I’ll find my rhythm eventually, I know.  It’s just taking more time than I’d expected.

I’m still stuck in chapter 1.  With school, the weekends are going to be my best time for writing.  I’m going to try getting up early to write, but I don’t know if it’s going to happen.

Now on to the giveaway!  I’ve reached 200 followers and this is officially my 300th blog post.  In honor of both milestones I’m giving away a $20 gift card to Barnes and Noble.

I chose the winner from my list of followers on my blogger dash board.  First I used a random number generator to give me a page number then a number for someone on that page.

And the winner is Tabitha Bird!  Drop me a line at novicewriteranonymous@gmail.com and I’ll get that sent to you straight away.

WiP Wednesday 9/15

*dusts off a few cobwebs*

Hi!

What a crazy, insane span of time it’s been.

But, I did manage to get some work done on writing things!  Woot!

I’ve shifted my focus from my adventure novel to Clockworks and Cogs.  I’m much more comfortable in fantasy than I am in adventure.  This novel is steampunk-ish and I’m excited for it.

Over the last couple of weeks I worked on world-building.  I banged out a short history for this world I’ve created and even drew a map.  There are lots of mountains in this place.  Which could prove rather interesting for future plottings.  We shall see.  I’ve done very brief character sketches for some of the principal players as well.

Until last night this book wouldn’t outline.  I had no idea where to begin, what direction to take the short story to make it a believable novel, etc.  And then, magically, it all fell into place.  I don’t know what happened but I like it when the muse comes in full force.  I outlined the entire book.  But it’s a very fluid outline, as they always are for me.  I can mold it and manipulate it until it becomes what I need it to be.  But it’s what I need it to be for now.

I’m thinking that I might get to start writing it today.  Squee!

Plus, I have a writing buddy now with whom I’ll be exchanging chapters.  So extra motivation to get started and keep going, despite the craziness that is my life.  (Hi, Sari!)
